i never really thought of chinese new year as something exciting because when we're back in hometown, besides seeing grandma and the lil cousins, cny is just a bunch of ppl hanging around in the same small house eating almost every single hour of the day, under the super hot weather. there always isn't much to do except for eat and dress in new clothes then it would be a load of talking nothing really. the man of the house will be gambling outside the house, the ladies either sleeping or talking or eating. but i guess all that is still better than not spending cny with family. this is the first year most of us are spending time away from home. when i saw all the new students who flew here just because they didn't want to miss the orientation, i say to myself, they should have asked seniors if the orientation was really necessary. i pity them for having to miss their chinese new year celebration just for orientation. well, i myself was having cny away from home as well. was supposed to meet up with eugene's uncle for lunch but eugene had a meeting, yes a meeting on cny! so ended up doing nothing but travelling around accompanying my friend to this JPA thingy where there was a new officer on the block! by the way, in case you didn't know, JPA officials seldom stay in their position for more than a year. don't ask me why. also, it was too hot to be hanging outdoors for the only celebration/demonstrations that was organized at Crown. well, at least we had a good dinner together! will be looking forward to the steamboat thingy that we're planning but haven't confirm with most ppl travelling back here in the next few days. steamboat steamboat!
everything new
just a quick update of what i've been doing the last week or so.
- went shopping first thing when i came back. it was fun to be able to buy cheap things in my size for a change.
- went ikea to buy furnitures for my room in our woody homely 'new' place.
- helped frances fixed up her study/computer table. we did it in less than 2 hours. not bad leh for two girls considering the table involved many complicated screws and fixtures.
- received my ISIC card so i don't have to carry passport as prove of age anymore. well at least for this year.
- received an email confirming that i got the honours scholarship.
- went to watch pursuit of happyness and loved it!
- got new speakers! real cute! dun jealous you don't have. ehehe...
- volunteered in uni for packing showbags for an upcoming careers fair.
- bought a cabinet for 30 bucks from reject shop. i wonder what's wrong with it for it to be in the reject shop. because it's made in msia or just plainly because the wood is so damn heavy for such a small shelf?
- paid my first rental today.
things yet to be done.
- waiting for internet to be fixed next week.
- waiting for doctors appointment to do medical check up.
- waiting for visa to be approved [after medical check up of course]
- start on literature reading. i'm so lazy that i still haven't started! in only two weeks time i'm supposed to be starting my honours already!
